change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the coffee community gathers at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.londoncoffeefestival.com\/\">London Coffee Festival<\/a> for the first time after covid lockdowns, United Baristas is encouraging baristas and coffee businesses to share their love of coffee with four meaningful actions that significantly lower coffee&#8217;s carbon footprint, specifically:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>choose oat milk<\/li><li>pay farmers more<\/li><li>buy from local roasters <\/li><li>use as little hot water as possible<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p festival over 200 flyers complete with \u2764\ufe0e Coffee condoms were handed out to key baristas, business owners and influencers across the coffee community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Baristas often declare their love of coffee, and the campaign helps baristas turn their love into meaningful actions that benefit coffee farmers, the coffee community and the world as the international community seeks to reduce global carbon emissions at the forthcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/ukcop26.org\/\">UN Climate Change Conference<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The campaign is supported by a range of United Baristas coffee&#8217;s carbon footprint<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022&nbsp;A Flat White has a carbon footprint of about 250 grams, <a href=\"https:\/\/unitedbaristas.com\/articles\/insights\/2019\/12\/milk-matters-small-changes-can-dramatically-lower-your-coffees-carbon-footprint\/\">the majority of emissions are from milk<\/a><br>\u2022&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/unitedbaristas.com\/articles\/insights\/2020\/06\/hot-stuff-how-espresso-machines-cause-global-warming\/\">The electricity consumed by the espresso machine to prepare espresso<\/a> has a greater impact than the coffee growing, its export, roasting and shipping combined<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The combination of consumers switching to oat milk and a new generation of espresso machines can lower the carbon footprint of a Flat White from 250 grams to less than 50 grams CO\u2082e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>United Baristas has played a key role helping the coffee industry understand its carbon emissions from crop to cup and identify actions baristas, business and coffee drinkers can take to lower coffee&#8217;s carbon footprint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p The key objective was to facilitate the sale of used coffee equipment so that it would remain in use throughout its full working life. The service has been a success for the coffee industry with hundreds of machines kept in use, with all the personal, commercial and environmental benefits that ensue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over that time United Baristas has expanded its services to include <em>United Baristas Job<\/em>, a recruitment platform, and <em>United Baristas Equipment<\/em>, which facilitates the better sourcing and servicing of coffee equipment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The services have grown quickly to become a key components of infrastructure for the specialty coffee community with thousands of baristas and businesses
