Scientists at London’s Kew Gardens explain how they are researching the impacts of climate change on coffee production

Coffee is a delicate crop and very sensitive to variations in temperature and humidity due to its narrow gene pool. With climate change already impacting coffee production, scientist at London’s Kew Gardens are monitoring the impacts and working to identify rare varieties to help making coffee more resilient.

A flat white or a latte has a comparatively heavy footprint of ~250 grams. As the majority of the emissions are cause by the brewing of the beverage, it falls to us – coffee makers and drinkers – to lower our carbon emissions.
